  • We have 628 total members this year – 196 Junior High, 432 High School
  • Codi Wilson will look into membership promotion ideas, including CINCH Outreach items
  • Rae Lyn Rasmussen was appointed as Vice President #1 and will have signing authority
  • 2024-2025 Membership prices were discussed – will be set at the next executive meeting
  • The board discussed the need to pursue provincial sponsorship, and a sponsorship committee was formed, consisting of Scott Schiffner, Fred Kugler and Codi Wilson
  • Jolynn Pugh, Pam Golden and Jamie Thorsteinson attended the Mid Winter Meeting in Branson, Missouri in January. They provided a report
  • The Sweetwater Events Centre in Rock Springs, Wyoming, will host the 2024 National High School Finals. They provided an overview of their rules, camping spot allocations, etc. Alberta will be allocated 29 full service camping spots this year. Full information will be made available in the qualifier sign up package.
  • Due to the misuse and damages to golf carts at 2023 Nationals, contestants will NOT be allowed to drive golf carts at 2024 Nationals (JH and HS). Only parents or guardians over the age of 21 will be allowed. Zero tolerance, offenders will be disqualified immediately and sent home.
  • National Finals Breakaway and Saddle Bronc banners purchased at Mid Winter Meeting will be displayed at the Junior High and High School Finals.
  • Several rule changes were adopted at the mid winter meeting including:
    • Any rodeos held out of state or province must be approved by the charter state or province in which they are held.

    • HS Breakaway – The only legal catch will be a bell collar catch.

    • JH Breakaway (Boys and Girls) – Addition – The calf’s head must pass through the loop.

    • JH Bareback and Saddle Bronc – Weights and Sizes for pony and steers were adjusted

    • Changes to the Shooting Sports Guide

    • RCH rule changes adopted to align with NRCHA rules.

  • The AHSRA Apparel Contract was awarded to two (2) companies – Coyote Designs from Carstairs, AB, and On-Demand Promotional Products from Grande Prairie, AB. Members will have the option to purchase AHSRA apparel from either supplier. This 3-year contract will take effect on August 1, 2024.
  • Codi is looking into FM transmitters and will present options at the next meeting.
  • Effective this spring, all turnouts must be submitted through a form on the website, under Rodeo Info > Turnouts. Parents will receive a confirmation email, and the data secretary will follow up within 12 hours.
  • Entries and payments for the JH and HS Finals will be handled through the EQuest event system. Entries will be open for 2 days following the last regular rodeo, and only qualifiers will enter. Contestants will also be able to pay for stalls, shirts, banquet tickets, etc. in EQuest. Full details will be communicated to members prior to the finals.
  • Meetings have been held with both finals committees. Full details will be shared when finalized:
    • Both Light Rifle and Trap will be offered at the HS Finals on Wednesday.

    • Reined Cow Horse and Cutting will also start on Wednesday.

The next meeting will take place during the HS Finals at the Stettler AgriPlex on Thursday, May 31 at 12:00 pm – beginning with the AGM, and the Executive Board Meeting will follow.

Thank you everyone who has given their time to make AHSRA a success. If you have any questions on these matters or any other, please feel free to reach out to Denton or myself.
