ahsra SCHOLARSHIPs
The AHSRA scholarship program is intended to reward those that have supported the association over the years through their participation, passion and all around positive conduct.
Who Can Apply
Any Grade 12 student may apply.
How and When to Apply
Applications must be submitted through the online form between October 15th and April 1st.
- Any applications submitted after April 1st will NOT be considered.
- Applications will be reviewed by Terrie Barkshire, AHSRA Scholarship Coordinator along with an independent scholarship committee.
- The decision of the scholarship committee is final and not open for review.
How Scholarships are Awarded
The scholarship committee considers the following criteria:
- Scholarship applicants who sell raffle tickets for AHSRA can receive extra monetary credit for doing so.
- Years of participation in AHSRA will be considered, however non-participants may apply
- Multiple rodeo event participation
- Leadership in AHSRA, including activities such as 4H, sports, other organizations
- Fundraising for AHSRA in years of participation
- Superior academic performance
- Community service activities
- Extra curricular activities and performance
- Positions held on student executive, event directors, or host committees.
- Awards or accomplishments in the rodeo arena are not taken into account for selection of scholarship recipients.
Application Requirements:
Applicants are required to provide the following:
- Post Secondary plans and proposed course of study and program length
- AHSRA or other events you have competed in or been involved in. Include any awards you have won, including serving as an event director, student executive or host committees. Also include any memberships, school clubs and civic or volunteer activities you have participated in while in high school rodeo.
- Grade 10, 11 and 12 (1st semester) school marks / report cards – must be dated and signed by your school principal.
- Reference letters – We require all applicants to upload three (3) reference letters from: 1) A high school teacher, 2) Director or Board Member of the AHSRA (past or present) and 3) A Community Member. All letters must be dates, signed and in proper letter format. (.pdf, .doc or .docx format)
- Essay – All applicants must submit a 600 to 1000 word, double-spaced essay. Things to include in your essay: How would you or how have you fulfilled the NHSRA Mission Statement? Your future career plans. Something important you learned through participation in high school rodeo. (.pdf, .doc or .docx format)
Applicants are not required to provide proof of financial need.
