💥 Meet Your Student Executive — Jaxen Gattey, District 2 Junior High President
We’re continuing our Why I Rodeo series, highlighting the youth leaders who represent their districts and help shape the future of AHSRA Junior High.
This week, meet Jaxen Gattey, your District 2 Junior High Student President — a young leader who’s been riding and swinging a rope since before he can remember.
“My start in rodeo began at a very young age. I have been riding and swinging a rope since I was 2 years old. Both my parents rodeoed. I have always enjoyed going to local jackpots and rodeos.
My favourite event is calf roping because there are so many variables to make a good, smooth run.
What I enjoy most about being in AHSRA is that it provides opportunities for young, up-and-coming athletes to get an early start in rodeo.
Being the D2 Jr. High student president is important to me because I have a chance to better the association and encourage kids to be leaders.
One of my most favourite rodeo memories was winning provincials in the ribbon roping and competing at the Jr. National High School Finals Rodeo in the ribbon roping and goat tying in Des Moines, Iowa.
What makes the AHSRA like family is that everyone is there to lend a hand when needed so things run smoothly, and everyone encourages you even if you’ve had a tough day.
One of the goals I have for myself this year is to qualify for my second National JHSRA Finals.”
🤠 Thank you, Jaxen, for representing District 2 with leadership, sportsmanship, and heart!
