AHSRA Board Chair Report

Thank you to everyone who joined our Board Meeting by Zoom on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Following is a summary of the meeting minutes:

  • Terrie provided a raffle update – Raffle books have been sent out to district coordinators and will be available to members soon. We will have a booth at CFR this year and Terrie is asking for a parent to coordinate volunteers to work shifts. We will look for more opportunities to sell raffle tickets at outside events. Members are encouraged to take extra books – they can receive extra scholarship money.
  • Scott provided a sponsorship update on behalf of the committee. They have been working on several ideas for securing corporate sponsorship for the association.
  • The board also discussed an offer from a vehicle dealership in northern Alberta for a referral program. The board is supportive of this – details will be shared with members who wish to participate.

If you have any questions on these matters or any other, feel free to reach out to Denton or myself.

Yours Truly,

Jolynn Pugh, Board Chair    403-783-0833    ahsrachair@gmail.com

💥 Meet Your Student Executive — Jaxen Gattey, District 2 Junior High President

We’re continuing our Why I Rodeo series, highlighting the youth leaders who represent their districts and help shape the future of AHSRA Junior High.

This week, meet Jaxen Gattey, your District 2 Junior High Student President — a young leader who’s been riding and swinging a rope since before he can remember.

“My start in rodeo began at a very young age. I have been riding and swinging a rope since I was 2 years old. Both my parents rodeoed. I have always enjoyed going to local jackpots and rodeos.

My favourite event is calf roping because there are so many variables to make a good, smooth run.

What I enjoy most about being in AHSRA is that it provides opportunities for young, up-and-coming athletes to get an early start in rodeo.

Being the D2 Jr. High student president is important to me because I have a chance to better the association and encourage kids to be leaders.

One of my most favourite rodeo memories was winning provincials in the ribbon roping and competing at the Jr. National High School Finals Rodeo in the ribbon roping and goat tying in Des Moines, Iowa.

What makes the AHSRA like family is that everyone is there to lend a hand when needed so things run smoothly, and everyone encourages you even if you’ve had a tough day.

One of the goals I have for myself this year is to qualify for my second National JHSRA Finals.”

🤠 Thank you, Jaxen, for representing District 2 with leadership, sportsmanship, and heart!

🐴 Meet Your 2025–2026 District 2 Junior High Executive!

These are the voices of District 2 Junior High — the volunteers, parents, and student leaders who dedicate their time and heart to Alberta’s youngest competitors (Grades 5–8).

You’ll find them in the arena, cheering from the rails, and helping ensure that each rodeo day runs safely and smoothly for our members.

Their commitment helps shape the next generation of cowboys and cowgirls — building confidence, community, and lifelong rodeo passion along the way. 💛

👏 Join us in thanking this incredible team for the many hours they give to support youth rodeo in east-central Alberta!

💥 Membership for the 2026 spring season is open until February 1st!
